That's great, Courtenay! Lovely to listen to and fascinating to watch.Courtenay wrote:Just ran across something that's definitely in the now-I've-seen-everything category: four cellists playing Ravel's Bolero... on one cello.

The fabulous Barbra Streisand/Michel Buble version of IT HAD TO BE YOU! - both magnificent voices.

Disappointing - it's not the 20-minutes version...Courtenay wrote:Just ran across something that's definitely in the now-I've-seen-everything category: four cellists playing Ravel's Bolero... on one cello.

It was a nuisance. An adventure was one thing - but an adventure without anything to eat was quite another thing. That wouldn't do at all. (The Valley of Adventure)

Billie Holiday was hired as the female vocalist with Artie's band in 1938. When the band was booked to appear at a hotel in one of the Southern states, the management said that she could not come in the front entrance, but would have to use the side entrance. Artie said, "Either she comes in the front with the rest of us, or we're not playing here." She was allowed to do so.

Good to hear that, Dave (the song and the story!)
Just been listening to the bright and joyful Ballade pour Adeline - Richard Clayderman:

My mum used to listen to that piece of music a lot when I was a child/teenager so it reminds me of her. Apparently the composer, Paul de Senneville, wrote it as a tribute to his newborn daughter, Adeline.

I didn't know that — that's lovely. That piece always reminds me of my cousin's fiance, years and years ago, who played the piano beautifully (to professional standard, really); Ballade pour Adeline was one of the pieces he used to play on our piano when he and my cousin came to visit. Unfortunately their relationship didn't last... a real pity, as he was such a nice guy and we all would have loved to have him in the family.Anita Bensoussane wrote:Apparently the composer, Paul de Senneville, wrote it as a tribute to his newborn daughter, Adeline.
Thanks for sharing that one, Anita — in return, here's another piano piece that I've discovered more recently and really love: I Giorni by Ludovico Einaudi

I started to watch the John Lees BJH concert which was recorded some days ago. Unfortunately one or the other song is abridged .

I've just been listening to Imelda May's live version of Johnny Burnette's classic 1956 recording The Train Kept A Rollin' :

A great slice of rockabilly.
