It is lovely, isn't it? :D Einaudi is a modern-day Italian composer whose music is usually very straightforward and accessible and really nice to listen to. I hadn't heard of him before moving to the UK — they play him on Classic FM a lot.

Harry James and his Orchestra - It's Been a Long, Long Time

https://www.dropshots.com/Domino43/date ... 7/18:10:53" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

This was Harry's last record to reach the No: 1 spot in the US. The song was also recorded by Bing Crosby accompanied by the Les Paul Trio and their version also made the top spot the following month. There were also hit versions in the US at the time by Charlie Spivak (vocal by Irene Daye) (No: 4) and Stan Kenton (vocal by June Christy) (No: 6).
As already mentioned on this thread, Kitty Kallen had previously sung with Jack Teagarden and Jimmy Dorsey. She left Harry in 1946 to join Artie Shaw's orchestra, but would not have another No: 1 until 1954 when, as a solo artist, she had a chart-topper in both the US and the UK with "Little Things Mean a Lot". She retired from show business in 1967. She died in 2016, aged 94.

Earl Hines - Sweet Georgia Brown

https://www.dropshots.com/Domino43/date ... 5/20:57:33" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Earl Hines was born in Duquesne (a suburb of Pittsburgh), Pennsylvania, in 1903. In 1927, he became pianist with Louis Armstrong's Chicago Stompers and in 1928 with Louis Armstrong's Hot Five. He developed an innovative style of piano playing known as 'trumpet style', and quickly became as revered as Armstrong himself. From 1928 to 1947, he led his own orchestra, which until 1940 had a residency at the Grand Terrace Ballroom in Chicago (which was controlled by the gangster, Al Capone). From 1948 to 1951, he played in Louis Armstrong's All Stars. He is known as one of the greatest jazz pianists of all time. He died in 1983.

I just thought this was heartwarming — a video from Mansfield Police in Nottinghamshire when they were doing a follow-up visit to a 93-year-old man who'd been burgled a few months earlier. On learning that the elderly gentleman was a fan of Chopin, one of the policemen played his favourite nocturne for him on the piano. :D http://www.classicfm.com/composers/chop ... -year-old/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Nice one, Courtenay! I really liked that. Its good to see officers integrating with the community like this. Because they're people just like us... just doing a job that sometimes very few appreciate. So its good when someone shines a warm light on them.

I love Lindsey Sterling. She's so creative. Wish I had a tenth of her creativity myself. If you haven't seen any of her videos, she has these wonderful ones here:

These are just some of the ones I like very much. I found a site that will convert them to mp3, as well, so I can stick them on iPod and listen to them at work.

I only listened to half of 'The Man' but some parts sound very similar to Elton John's 'Your Song'

This is your song...").

Agreed Anita. I listened to both and he could have broken right into Elton's song. :)

I don't know if you've ever looked up "4 chord songs" on youtube, but there is an Australian comedy group called "Axis of Awesome" that does this and its very funny to hear all the songs that are very similar... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QpB_40hYjXU" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Benny Goodman - There'll Be Some Changes Made

https://www.dropshots.com/Domino43/date ... 5/22:12:27" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

This record was recorded for the Victor label in 1939, but was not released until 1941, by which time Benny was recording for Columbia.
Louise Tobin was born in 1918 in Aubrey, Texas. She sang with Art Hicks and his Orchestra in Texas from 1934. She married his lead trumpet player, none other than Harry James. She and Harry joined Benny Goodman in 1939. They divorced in 1943, when Harry married Betty Grable. She sang with several bands after the war. In 1967, she married clarinettist, Michael 'Peanuts' Hucko, and remained so until he died in 2003.
