Sounds like a great trip Nigel. Northumberland is on my bucket list. I'm glad you enjoyed it and equally glad you're back with us.

Thanks Francis and John. I can fully recommend the north-east. It is essential to join EH to get full value of castle viewing! We still missed two, Prudhoe and Belsay Hall Castle. Brinkburn Priory is just magical.

Don't worry John we've already all seen it, haha; Julie, myself and Courtenay all aired our views on it - in fact you've probably seen it

You do indeed have many friends on this forum and it reflects the affection we all for you - and yes, you are younger than me (if only by a few months)!

Re: Happy Birthday Nigel!!
Nigel, yes, I did drive by Alnwick in 1981 and took a few pics, but believe it was still closed or we had too many castles to visit on that day, so we continued on to Bamburgh Castle right on the beach and from what I remember it's pretty close to Alnwick Castle (have you been there?). It's incredible:Moonraker wrote:We have been away from home for a couple of weeks, starting with our son's wedding at Brinkburn Priory in Northumberland and then spending a further ten days in Alnwick and exploring the north-east and borders (why is it referred to as the Scottish Borders and not the English Borders?). Chrissie would have loved it - we are now 'castled-out'!
Secondly, apologies for not replying. I'm not mad at you Christie, but being away I have limited my online sessions to email - and of course, saw Facebook as I also put up some wedding photos whilst away. Incidentally, I never get mad with people, but they sometimes get mad with me! I am delighted to share my age with a lighthouse, Chrissie. I also share my dob with Agatha Christie, although somewhat younger and still alive.
Thanks again for all your good wishes. You're a great bunch of friends to have. Regarding my birthday not appearing, I think I left my dob box blank as I feel guilty if someone's birthday slips by and I don't post. It has nothing to do with not liking the person, just that I haven't seen the thread. I will try to do better! You can see, Tony, that hiding your dob doesn't stop a flood of birthday greetings flying in. I am most humbled.
When I have sorted out all of our wedding/holiday photos, I will post a small selection for you to look at. Thanks also to Tony for replying to my email regarding Seven Stories/Newcastle. I missed that boat by quite a long time!

I'm glad you are not mad at me.
Either Facebook had the wrong date or I wrote down the wrong date and so I ended up congratulating one day too early.
I usually skip checking my inboxes during our vacations due to a constant lack of time. Hardly can keep up with writing into my travel journal at night. Last year I barely finished reading only one book (600+ pages though) during those 3 weeks in Germany & Austria and spent most evenings once we returned from the restaurants with writing all the new experiences of that day into the journal.
Now I'm looking forward to admire your castle pics!!!
PS: Could you please make a short mention of the title of your photo thread, so I can find it when I click on "view new posts"? Thanks.

It's a pity you didn't go earlier in the year, Nigel. You could have visited the Farne Islands and seen your favourite birds, puffins.

Is that Lindisfarne by any chance? I remember it's connected to the main land.John Pickup wrote:You could have visited the Farne Islands and seen your favourite birds, puffins.
I went there in 1981 to see the filming locations of Roman Polanski's "Cul-de-sac".
It was a slightly foggy day in May which added to the atmosphere.
I remember there were little lambs, but no puffins .

Re: Happy Birthday Nigel!!
Gorgeous pics, Nigel.
What a beautiful bride and groom!
It's also lovely to see new photos of you and your wife.
The wedding cake sure looks delicious!
Sorry for confusing you. That was the language barrier.
I thought you would also post some castle photos and that was the mention I was refering to.

Beautiful pictures, Nigel — it obviously was a wonderful day all round for the happy couple and their families! Congratulations to them and to you all.

It was a nuisance. An adventure was one thing - but an adventure without anything to eat was quite another thing. That wouldn't do at all. (The Valley of Adventure)
