I used to love that series too daisy. I was very young at the time but it was a great treat to be allowed to stay up and watch it with my Mum who loved it too. I went to Liverpool a couple of years ago and toured the rock n roll places of the city as well as the WW2 admiralty rooms and the U-Boat museum. It's a fascinating, lively and very friendly city. I have been meaning to go back for some time now.

Paul Cole was in one of the most famous photographs of the 20th century, and yet he wasn't famous.

Cole, a longtime Barefoot Bay resident, died Wednesday in Pensacola at age 96. He is clearly seen in the famous shot of the Beatles walking across London's Abbey Road, used as the front cover of the group's classic 1969 album, "Abbey Road." Over the years, the picture has been reproduced in books, on posters, coffee mugs, T-shirts and hundreds of other places.

The retired salesman is standing on the sidewalk, just behind the Beatles. Gawking at them.

I had several day trips to Liverpool as a teenager when my sister and I went to stay with friends in Southport. We used to like taking the ferry 'cross the Mersey (yes, we sang the relevant song!) and going to the Albert Dock, which had at that time recently been renovated. Also loved the beach and woods at nearby Formby - I think it's the only place I've ever seen red squirrels. I recall that one of our friends' friends was a walking encyclopedia on The Beatles - you could ask her any question about them and she would answer it straight off.

I also enjoyed taking the ferry 'cross the Mersey and visiting the Albert Dock, Anita. Liverpool can boast a long line of popular music artists, apart from the brilliant Beatles. Here is a list of just some of them (in no particular order): Billy Fury, Frankie Vaughan, Michael Holliday, Gerry and the Pacemakers, Cilla Black, Lita Roza, Billy J. Kramer and the Dakotas, The Searchers, Ken Dodd, The Scaffold, Frankie Goes to Hollywood and Sonia. I'm sure there are quite a few more, but I can't think of them off the top of my head.

There is a great statue of Billy Fury overlooking the River Mersey, outside the Piermaster's House in the Albert Dock:



This is a fitting tribute to a great star (a deck hand at the Albert Dock before becoming famous) who notched up 26 hit singles in the 1960s (eleven of them making the top 10) and three in the 1980s. Seven of his albums also made the charts, the most recent was a top ten hit in 2008, Billy Fury: His Wondrous Story – The Complete Collection.

A good statue of Billy Fury, Eddie. We had booked to stay in Pontins in Southport for a week in 2008 and had hoped to visit Liverpool while we were there, but unfortunately my son broke his arm just beforehand and we had to cancel.

A Day In The Life - Vocal Controversy

Who would you say is singing,Paul or John?

Many assume these vocals to be John's:

But there is much debate about it:

This should put the debate completely to rest. Those familiar with Paul’s voice can clearly hear that his is the main voice here. However those that claimed to hear elements of John’s voice are not wrong because John is heard in the background making his own almost ghostly sounding “oohs” and “aaahs.” The echo is on both voices now, though Paul’s is without a doubt the more prominent of the two. The final mixing enhanced the vocals in such a way that they were no longer discernible as two separate voices.

For those of you that have always thought it was only John singing the dream sequence, I can completely relate. I thought the same myself for quite a long time. In fact, I thought that for so long that I feel like it was a major adjustment to my thinking to mentally place Paul in that section whenever I listen to that great piece of work. But thanks to this isolation mix, his part is indisputable.

I had always assumed the vocals were John's.Listening back to the clip included in the 2nd link above makes me rethink.

This one may be easier to pick up on.

For years people debated that John Lennon provided all his own backing vocals to the Abbey Road track 'Come Together'..until the Paul McCartney backing vocal was isolated.

There are still some who refuse to accept that this is Paul not John though!
