I read the news today, oh boy:

How The Beatles still grip Liverpool

Forty-six years after they split, The Beatles are responsible for one in every 100 jobs in their home city of Liverpool. That was one of the standout statistics from the group's financial legacy released in a report this week. BBC News looks at the numbers behind the Fab Four....

To most people born after 1980, Liverpool is the name of a famous soccer club.

As every American kid knows, Liverpool is a village in New York. Why, didn't Mr. Spock drive the Bangles from there once?

To those born within Generation X, the Rolling Stones are their parents' music and the Beatles are an oldies act. And yes, they get their generation's music from sources other than a traditional analogue FM.

radio stations with an older audience have to add 90's music or risk sounding REALLY old.

A few weeks later, Paul and Linda took the children and Wings to New Orleans for Mardi Gras. The McCartneys had themselves made up as clowns so they could mingle with the crowd during the carnival.

Growing up in the 1980s, Liverpool was synonymous with a middle aged woman shouting "She's a tart!", a fair haired man in a leather coat, a young woman saying "I'm a model!" and an old man demanding to know where his pudding was.

I genuinely liked it at the time!

Would that be "Bread" by Carla Lane? To me Liverpool reminds me of "the Liver Birds" which I used to enjoy very much.

I liked the Liver Birds too, Daisy, but I don't think the series was as good when the blonde girl left and was replaced.

I would have first heard of the name Liverpool on the Monopoly board (as in Liverpool Street Station). But I knew about the Beatles as well.

Oh yes, John, I'd forgotten about that but I agree it didn't seem quite as good with the replacement.

Double Fantasy only got the Grammy because Lennon died. And his next album was planned to have half Yoko Ono content, which I'm sure would have helped it break sales records across the globe...

Martha & Paul

In 1965 Paul McCartney bought his new St. John’s Wood home at 7 Cavendish Avenue, but did not move in right away since several renovations were necessary. In March of 1966 he moved in with girlfriend Jane Asher and at some point in between, he bought an Old English Sheepdog as a puppy and named her “Martha.”

Paul is quoted in Barry Miles’ 1997 biography Many Years From Now as saying:

She was a dear pet of mine. I remember John (Lennon) being amazed to see me being so loving to an animal. He said, ‘I’ve never seen you like that before.’ I’ve since thought, you know, he wouldn’t have. It’s only when you’re cuddling around with a dog that you’re in that mode, and she was a very cuddly dog.

While sheepdogs typically live to be around 10 or 11 years old, Martha was around for over 15 years. She died in 1981 at Paul’s farm house in Mull Of Kintyre, Scotland. One of her offspring, named Arrow, can be seen crossing Abbey Road with Paul on the cover photo of the concert album Paul Is Live released in November 1993.
" A kind heart always brings its own reward," said Mrs. Lee.
