It was a nuisance. An adventure was one thing - but an adventure without anything to eat was quite another thing. That wouldn't do at all. (The Valley of Adventure)

Rob Houghton wrote:I like long posts personally - most of them - such as Anita's, are very interesting, and informative. Short posts are fine too.

I'm also well-aware that my Enid Blyton Magazine posts are a bit long for some people to bother reading, but on the other hand many people enjoy them - all a matter of taste I guess. :-D
Thanks, Rob. I like the longer posts too and have thoroughly enjoyed the recent in-depth discussions on The Six Bad Boys, the Barney mysteries, French translations of the Adventure series and strong adult characters in Blyton books - as well as numerous other subjects.

Personally I wouldn't mind if there were no posts at all about football (even short ones) as it's not a topic that interests me. I prefer owls and seagulls to Owls and Seagulls! However, the football posts don't annoy me as I know others get pleasure from discussing a sport that they love.

Actually, I was thinking today - thank goodness for longer posts!! Imagine a forum that didn't have any? It would be like -

'I read The Three Golliwogs'

'I like that book'

'Me too'

'I don't'

'Why?'

'Racist'

'Oh'

I think I'd much rather have longer posts! Short posts annoy me much more!

I'll warm me with your echoes

My journal hasn't come yet. Thursday is the most popular day for getting post, so maybe tomorrow.
But not as annoying as when someone does the quiz for me :)

I personally don't mind long posts as long as they are well written and well thought out. However I only bother to read them if they are on a topic that interests me.
In fact, especially on threads where discussions or readathons are going on, I much prefer long posts. :)

I received a notification from DHL (parcel service) on Wednesday that they couldn't pass a parcel through customs. The notification said it was from outside the EU, although I only expected one from the UK. They asked me to gather information about this book (bill, etc) so I could pay the fee, but conveniently they left out the address of the sender. What if I had expected several parcels from abroad   ? Due to the not customer friendly opening times of the customs office I had to speak with my employer first to get permission to get it during working time.
On Friday I went there and got the parcel, I was lucky I didn't have to wait and things went rather smoothly. It turned out DHL had put on a sticker with their data on the parcel which covered most of the address of the sender   . I didn't have to pay any fee at all, and I only lost about a quarter hour of worktime which I don't get paid, but I still had a lot of effort and spent quite some time on this issue, so I'm in a good mine complaining to DHL   . If that happens more frequently it's no miracle if parcels vanish during the transit...

Sorry to hear about that experience with the post Wolfgang - glad to hear you still managed to get your books though.

Not to start political arguments, but I assume this will happen more often when we are out of the EU, due to customs charges etc. :( 8) This is one aspect many people haven't thought of.

That's very annoying, Wolfgang, but I'm glad you got your parcel in the end.

Did you eventually receive your Journal, Lenoir? It seems to take a long time to reach you these days.

Things have to go through customs even if they're from the EU, that was not the problem. The problem was, that the German Parcel service made it impossible to identify the sender of the parcel. If things are sent to countries that are not part of a custom-free agreement, the sender has to fill out a form for custom services so offices can check things accordingly.

Thank you for your sympathy, Anita and Pete :-).
