RIP Roger Moore

Post by Nicko »

Always one of my favourite actors and he made a great Bond for the 70s (the series had already turned to comedy with Diamonds are Forever, but Roger was much more suited to it than Sean).

He also showed what a fine serious actor he could be in The Man Who Haunted Himself.

Sad, a great actor. I saw him in 2014 at the Hall for Cornwall - An Audience with Sir Roger Moore. A lovely man. I loved him in The Saint and Ivanhoe. R.I.P.

One of the biggest names in films during my childhood. Octopussy was the first Bond film I saw at the cinema which is why his appearance in it has been my avatar for the past year or so. I also followed his page on Facebook and he came across as a warm and charming man in real life.

I loved Roger Moore's work, specially the Bond films, and admired his tireless efforts for charity, he'll be sadly missed.

A much underrated James Bond. Also a true gentleman by all accounts. RIP Sir Roger Moore.

Roger was someone I loved more for his role in The Saint (I did read the novels too), in which I felt he excelled in, not take anything away for his role in the James Bond movies where he did add a dash of humour and sophistication.
His untiring work for Unicef inspired in part from his experiences in filming the Octopussy movie in India until his short illness, raising funds for that UN organizations work with children, is something I think many of us respected him for.

RIP Roger Moore. I was never a big James Bond fan, but here was someone who seemed to add more to the character than just buff orphan action heroism. Sophisticated and gentlemanlike, he will be remembered.

R.I. P. Roger.

The first Bond actor whose films I saw, and to my mind the best. I also felt that he provided more than just routine action heroism, with an element of sophistication rather than menace - and he also used an element of humour that I think has been sadly lost in more recent characterisations especially by Daniel Craig. I much preferred the quirky and mildly 'over the top' 1970s Bond films to the present ones, as they did not take it all too seriously - and Roger was perfect for that. His more recent interviews also showed that he had a more relaxed and less intense approach to acting than some younger stars, while still using his fame to do good charity work where it mattered.

I would just like to add my own comments on hearing the sad news of the death of Roger Moore. A great and accomplished actor, with many great parts and characters under his belt. Although I agree he was good as Bond, I will probably remember him best as Lord Brett Sinclair in The Persuaders!
