This was the 'B' side of his first single, "Bad Luck Blues". The pianist is Johnny Jones, who often accompanied Elmore James.

Re: Last Song You Listened To
I visited Anglesey Abbey today. There was a grand piano in one of the rooms and my mother said she'd love to hear it being played. I laughed and said it was so old that it was probably horrendously out of tune. A couple of minutes later, a man entered the room, sat down and played the following:-

talk about having to eat my words - it was beautiful. The room fell silent as we all stood and listened.

Wonderful piece, Katharine - one of my favourites too.

It was a nuisance. An adventure was one thing - but an adventure without anything to eat was quite another thing. That wouldn't do at all. (The Valley of Adventure)

She was born in New Jersey, but grew up in New York City. She moved to California in the early 1980s. She never uses a pick, preferring to use her fingers, which she does in a unique way.

Re: Last Song You Listened To
Oh yes, I remember Sweet and Sour on TV, or at least the "I am in control" song. The actual show went completely over my head as a kindergarten kid, but I figured I'd understand that sort of thing one day when I grew up. I still don't.
I've posted this one before, but today while I was on the road, Classic FM played Aaron Copland's Fanfare for the Common Man, just when I needed a bit of an uplift. There's something so clean, clear, simple yet dignified about this piece - something humble and yet great at the same time, like the common humanity that we all share. It was just the thought I happened to need at that moment.
Interestingly, this piece was composed in 1942 for the Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra, as part of a series of fanfares to open each of their concerts during WWII. I liked this account of its composition from Wikipedia:

Interestingly, this piece was composed in 1942 for the Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra, as part of a series of fanfares to open each of their concerts during WWII. I liked this account of its composition from Wikipedia:
[Conductor Eugene] Goossens had suggested titles such as Fanfare for Soldiers, or sailors or airmen, and he wrote that "It is my idea to make these fanfares stirring and significant contributions to the war effort...." Copland considered several titles including Fanfare for a Solemn Ceremony and Fanfare for Four Freedoms; to Goossens' surprise, however, Copland titled the piece Fanfare for the Common Man. Goossens wrote "Its title is as original as its music, and I think it is so telling that it deserves a special occasion for its performance. If it is agreeable to you, we will premiere it 12 March 1943 at income tax time." Copland's reply was "I [am] all for honoring the common man at income tax time."

Courtus, have you heard of this song, and are you likely to like it?
I've also heard the instrumental, Fanfare For The Common Man, Courtus, but the Emerson, Lake, and Palmer version, is the one I've heard. Not the version you linked to. The Emerson, Lake, and Palmer version, is the one I like.

"Once Upon a Time", Bobby Darin

Here's an older, more sedate track I heard on the radio for the first time recently and liked.
It's not on my double cd of Bobby's greatest hits.

Ah, the great Bobby Darin!
Once Upon A Time wasn't released as a single and so wouldn't appear on a greatest hits collection, Pete. It was a track on Bobby's 1966 album, In a Broadway Bag (Mame).

'Go down to the side-shows by the river this afternoon. I'll meet you somewhere in disguise. Bet you won't know me!' wrote Fatty.

A lovely song. Agnetha Faltskog has a superb voice, sweet and soaring. Another of her songs I like very much is Man:Bannerman65 wrote:Agnetha Faltskog - Wrap Your Arms Around Me.
