I remember telling Keith about that ages ago, but he didn't come up with anything. I wonder if it would make any difference if I tried going into your profile and altering the setting, Daisy? I don't even know if it's possible for me to do that, but I could have a look. Please let me know by PM or email if you'd like me to try.Daisy wrote:...as I don't get the notifications I shall leave well alone! I only wish I could turn them off on here. All I can do is "unsubscribe" at the bottom of the thread I'm on, which holds good until next time I make a post. Trying to alter the setting in my profile is no use. It is blind to my command!

I appreciate it, Fiona. Thank you .Fiona1986 wrote:
Click the down arrow at the very right of the blue bar at the top of the screen (beside the padlock icon)
Click SETTINGS on that drop down menu
Click NOTIFICATIONS in the list at the left of the new screen
The second item in the middle of the screen should be EMAIL and to the right click EDIT
You should then see a very long list of about 55 options. Mine says all 55 are unsubscribed and I have the option to click TURN ON. You will want to click TURN OFF to anything you don't want. Such as POSTS FROM CLOSE FRIENDS, and any COMMENT ones you are getting and don't want to.
You can also select the middle option from the top three to only recieve IMPORTANT notifications by email (that's what mine is set to.)
I followed them every step.
However, I don't have that long list with 55 options. Just 3 options regarding e-mails. No chance to stop them, so I chose the one in the middle which says "only important notifications". How does FB know what's important? It seems everybody has a different FB menu like Daisy and me.

Re: General Natter Room
You found it, Chrissie! There are only 3 email-options. I have the 'important notifications' option checked. These are mainly birthday reminders. If you choose the third option, you will only get emails from Facebook, such as emails concerning your account or security issues. That is the one to 'tick' if you want to receive practically nothing.
As you have 'ticked' the middle one, you should see a dramatic decrease in your number of emails.

Re: General Natter Room
Fingers crossed that makes a difference then, Chrissie. Not sure why I have 55 options and others don't. I'll have another nosy at my settings again once I get home and see if I can work it out.i

Thanks, Fiona and Nigel . I will let you know if it gets less. This morning I still had a dozen notifications in my Yahoo inbox from FB. I guess it takes a few days, before it kicks in.

It should be immediate, Chrissie, if you've done it right.Chrissie777 wrote:I guess it takes a few days, before it kicks in.

It was a nuisance. An adventure was one thing - but an adventure without anything to eat was quite another thing. That wouldn't do at all. (The Valley of Adventure)

Maybe a new "Facebook Fixing" thread should be made!

Facebook will never be fixed. It's usually just a rolling list of issues.

Re: General Natter Room
So far my investigations have shown that if I TURN ON emails for any of the 55 items I have listed then there doesn't seem to be a way to turn them off again. I'm hoping the emails will have a link to turn them off again.

Re: General Natter Room
Ok I have the solution, guys!
At the bottom of each email from Facebook should be the text:
You may have to do it a few times for different "types" of email. It might be that you have to unsubscribe from emails for comments, statuses, photos and so on.
At the bottom of each email from Facebook should be the text:
The word unsubscribe is a link which will take you to a Facebook pageThis message was sent to [your email address]. If you don't want to receive these emails from Facebook in the future, please unsubscribe. Facebook, Inc., Attention: Department 415, PO Box 10005, Palo Alto, CA 94303
Click confirm and it's done.Would you like to opt out of this email notification?
You will no longer receive this type of email:

Re: General Natter Room
Hi Fiona, I just worry that if I would do that I might no longer get any private comments or birthday reminders. I actually only want to get rid of "share" (this person shares bla bla bla with you). Because that accumulates way too many notification e-mails in my Yahoo inbox. Up to 100 e-mails per day (guess I am friends with too many people on FB ).

Re: General Natter Room
You'll be fine, Chrissie. Only unsubscribe from the ones that are for "this person shares" etc and you will still get the birthday reminders and so on.

Re: General Natter Room
I will. Thanks, Fiona.
So far I haven't received any shares this afternoon. Maybe it finally kicked in.

God, let's hope so.
