I'd forgotten that yesterday was Empire Day, a belated Happy Birthday to Bobs. Nice easy puzzle this time, I managed to solve at once.

Enid's garden sounds glorious at this time of year. Like her, I love seeing hawthorn and lilacs and laburnum in bloom - and fields golden with buttercups.

Enid starts off by asking us if we are enjoying these summer days. As I read those words the wind is blowing down from the North, the sky is a slab of grey, the rain is falling and the temperature is struggling below 10 degrees. More like winter here today. Bobs letter is funny, two dogs sunbathing.

I love Bobs' comment about the "fine new kennel" for the ducks and hens being a waste!

I noticed a lot of catmint while out walking yesterday. There were pink and white roses growing nearby, and the combination was beautiful.

Looks like Enid's letter was restored to its full column length after a few months as a "corner"!

Another lovely letter — I enjoyed the description of the foal and the lambs, along with Enid's plans to expand her family of chickens. Those were the days, too, I guess, when a letter could be posted "direct to Old Thatch, Bourne End, Bucks." without any house number, street name or postcode!!
