May I come too? I'd definitely be up for an Enid Blyton gathering in and around Corfe and Swanage if I had enough notice to be able to get the time off work.

It was a nuisance. An adventure was one thing - but an adventure without anything to eat was quite another thing. That wouldn't do at all. (The Valley of Adventure)

Re: Enid Blyton's Weekly Letters in Teachers World
Before Tony zapps these posts as they have little to do with Teachers' World, I love the village and castle. It hasn't changed for many years (apart from the horrendous amount of traffic), and the tenuous links with Enid have little to do with its charm. Core Castle and Swanage are both pretty magical in my view. I have many childhood memories of visiting the Isle of Purbeck, which probably accounts for the attraction for me.

Re: Enid Blyton's Weekly Letters in Teachers World
Corfe Castle does have something to do with Teacher's World. We've just been reading and commenting on the letter from 1931 in which Enid provides a beautiful and evocative description of her visit to the castle and her impressions of it. So isn't it perfectly natural that forum participants should be remarking in turn on what they like/don't like about Corfe Castle themselves?
I know there have been some threads recently that have gone completely off topic into unrelated subjects or in-jokes, but I can't see that this is one of them.

No! I was just stating the case for why this thread doesn't deserve to be pruned, in case Tony does have his eye on it.

I especially love the National Trust tearoom garden which is right by the castle, and looking up at the ruins. We stayed at a pleasant hotel in Corfe village, and it was wonderful walking round the village at dusk and early morning before the many visitors arrived in force!
"Its a magic wood!" said Fanny suddenly.

Yes, we go in there a lot, Floragord. It's lovely on a sunny day, watching the birds that flock around your table and viewing the castle.
On rainy days we go inside and the tearoom is just as nice and quaint inside too.

From what I have seen in pictures, I have always thought that Corfe Castle looks like a very striking and interesting place, and I think it really does resemble my vision of Kirrin Castle. I hope that in the near future, I will be able to visit it - and also the Ginger Pop Shop.

Viv's got some nice 2nd hand books in at the moment too, as we're on the subject of Ginger Pop shop. Some nice copies of the FF in hardback. I'm going over in a few weeks time to spend a few hours helping her out by backing some of them in protective covers, if she hasn't sold them. I'd hate to see those lovely covers torn!

Maybe Tony's taking some (well-deserved) time off and hasn't scanned them yet?

It was a holiday on Monday, and for Tony too. I think we all know he deserves a day off from time to time.
