Courtenay, methinks thou protestest too much. Sometimes to say less is to say more... :P

No, Nigel's right — "thou protestest" is the old-fashioned second person singular. "Protesteth" is the third person singular, as in "he/she protesteth". But "thou dost protest" would work as well.

Surprisingly, the quote is actually 'the lady doth protest too much, me thinks!' ;-)

Wow, that's great news — I hope they do raise enough funds to create the gallery! :D I had no idea that Eileen's father and sister were artists too. I love George Soper's painting of the horses!

(I can see one error in the article — it says twice (once in the article, once in a picture caption) that Eileen Soper "was responsible for the covers of the Famous Five stories". Er, um, what about the internal illustrations??)

There's a link to The Soper Collection website in the article, but they don't have much of anything on the site yet, just an email address to contact for further information. I assume the site will eventually explain more of their plans and how to support them. I'd be happy to make a donation towards the project and will definitely have to go and visit the gallery if it comes about!

Well, at least later in the text towards the end it says that Soper illustrated many EB books.

Wonderful news about Eileen Soper.
Oh if only Betty Maxey could get some long overdue recognition and appreciation too:
