Kate Mary wrote:I have just finished reading the first Merry Moments booklet, it was wonderful, I am already a fan of the 'Rough and Fluff and Polly Pat' comic strip. Before I start on volume two, I shall re-read David Chambers articles in Journals 44 and 45. Many thanks to David for his research and Tony for having these stories reprinted.

Kate.
How many pages long are the Merry Moments booklets? Thanks :D
In came the Taggertys. They were clean, except Biddy knees looked like she had been crawling half a mile in some muddy place.

The first one has 80 pages and the other three 72 each, a total of 296 pages.

I've just noticed that there is a copy of Merry Moments Annual 1924 currently for sale on ebay. As it's £90 I think I'll stick to the society booklets, a real bargain.
If I could live here on this secret island always and always and always, and never grow up at all, I would be quite happy

I'll have to give the annual a miss too, Shadow! The latest four Merry Moments booklets contain material from Merry Moments magazines dating from 1921 and 1922 - even harder to find than the annuals!
"Heyho for a starry night and a heathery bed!" - Jack, The Secret Island.

"There is no bond like the bond of having read and liked the same books."
- E. Nesbit, The Wonderful Garden.

To think that I recently bought "Enid Blytons Abenteuer Magazin Band 2 - Agentenjagd am Hicock Hill" (Comic based on Five go to Billycock Hill) for about 17€. When I checked for other issues the only one I could find was Band 3 with the lowest prize of about 40€.

I thought it might be a good idea if I posted about some new Society booklets that will hopefully be published in 2013, although it is likely that they will not all come out at the same time. Sunny Stories for Little Folks is a rich source of uncollected material. Copies from the late 1920s with coloured covers are so rare that it would be easier (and probably cheaper!) to collect gold dust. I thought it was therefore time that some of these 36 page booklets should be made more widely available for our members to read. They either contain complete stories in chapters (novelettes?) or short stories about familiar Blyton characters, such as Hop, Skip and Jump, Binkle and Flip, and Brer Rabbit. One of these stories was published as a paperback by Red Fox in 1995 as The Wizard That Wasn't, but because of their length none is likely to be used in a short story book.

Together with David Chambers (he does the hard graft!), I have now completed six booklets and there are more in the pipeline.

I don't know whether to be pleased or groan at this latest bit of news. On the positive side it will be fantastic to own these publications, as I doubt there will be any chance of me owning the originals. On the other hand, it means yet more publications to have to try and pick and choose from the Society Shop. A girl's pocket money will only go so far.

I know they haven't been released yet, but thank you in advance to Tony and David for all their hard work. I know they don't do it for profit, and I was just singing your praises to my mother this morning for sharing all you do with us.

You are quite right, Katharine, that we don't do this for profit, simply to give pleasure to those who buy them as they would be unlikely to be able to read the stories elsewhere. Although some of these booklets have been done at a loss, we always hope to break even and I now do a very small print run on all new booklets. Unlike the Merry Moments booklets which I sold as a set, all titles here will be available separately and I should have added that you can of course see the contents of each by looking in the Cave.

Two more titles on our 'hit' list below, Twinkle is already well under way, and has internal illustrations by Dorothy Wheeler.

These look absolutely delumptious! Great work, Tony and David! How exciting to have the chance to read some "new" stories about old favourites like Binkle & Flip, Simple Simon and Hop, Skip & Jump, and to make the acquaintance of "long-lost" characters like Twinkle.
