The Cave is overflowing with treasures not least among them The Teachers' World. Lovely artwork on the cover of The Open Gate. I know I continually say this but it can't be said too often - Thank you Tony.

It was a nuisance. An adventure was one thing - but an adventure without anything to eat was quite another thing. That wouldn't do at all. (The Valley of Adventure)

Re: Website Additions
Interesting to see the two latest editions. Typical me - the cover of 'The Open Gate' didn't appeal at all, but I really loved the look of the other one.

Re: Website Additions
Thanks for these latest additions to the Cave, Tony! I also like the artwork for The Open Gate, but the dog didn't strike me as being particularly big!
Enid must have really liked the story about Ali Baba: she seemed to mention it quite often - I remember first reading about it in The Castle of Adventure when the children describe the cave in the castle as similar to Ali Baba's secret cave. The following week, we started doing about the story at school, so Enid's reference gave me a reasonable head-start.

Re: Website Additions
As a result of recent posts I have added two series of de-luxe editions by Egmont and Dean to the Recreation section in the Cave. They can also be found under their respective series of novels.

Re: Website Additions
How come The Enchanted Wood is listed as book 2 in the Faraway Tree category when it's actually book 1 - or have the publishers changed the order of the series as well as censoring the children's names (and goodness knows what else)?
I don't mind Quentin Blake's illustrations for books that suit his style (like The BFG), but to me his Faraway Tree drawings border on the moronic, I'm afraid.

Re: Website Additions
I agree about Quentin Blake's illustrations. Imagine if he illustrated Sherlock Holmes or Pride and Prejudice - that's how I feel about illustrators like him illustrating EB books.
In Waterstones yesterday I was pleased to see big thick omnibus paperback versions of The Wishing Chair, Enchanted Wood and even more surprisingly, the Galliano's Circus books. I had no idea the circus books were still in print, so that was a pleasant surprise!

Re: Website Additions
The only illustration that Quentin Blake has done for an Enid Blyton book is the cover of Five on a Treasure Island.Courtenay wrote:I don't mind Quentin Blake's illustrations for books that suit his style (like The BFG), but to me his Faraway Tree drawings border on the moronic, I'm afraid.

Well, whoever's they are - and they do look very like Quentin Blake's style - they still border on the moronic.Tony Summerfield wrote:The only illustration that Quentin Blake has done for an Enid Blyton book is the cover of Five on a Treasure Island.Courtenay wrote:I don't mind Quentin Blake's illustrations for books that suit his style (like The BFG), but to me his Faraway Tree drawings border on the moronic, I'm afraid.
Do you know whether they really have labelled The Enchanted Wood as the second book in this series, or was it just that The Magic Faraway Tree was released first in this new edition?
