Website Additions
Re: Website Additions
Really interesting illustrations from Mr. Icy-Cold, not the sort of thing I would normally expect to see in an Enid Blyton book.
I love all the Molly Brett illustrations - I've got a couple of those little books somewhere, I must try and find them so I know which ones I've got!

Yes, I quite like the Mr Icy-Cold illustrations too. They're very unusual for Enid and wouldn't suit a lot of her work, but there's quite a Victorian "Gothic" fairy-tale atmosphere to them — slightly creepy and macabre, a little like a more elaborate version of Horace Knowles' illustrations to The Land of Far-Beyond.

It was a nuisance. An adventure was one thing - but an adventure without anything to eat was quite another thing. That wouldn't do at all. (The Valley of Adventure)

I've just read Terry's review of the last Brockhampton Little Book in the series. Lucky man to have been able to read them all. I haven't read any but I've enjoyed his reviews. What will he review next I wonder?

An enjoyable review of Trouble for the Twins.
I thought that too... and it looks as though the book cover gives away the ending of that particular story ('They Really Were Sorry').Terry Gustafson wrote:Johnny and Jinny could have tossed to decide who went to the shops ... surely one of them could have made both purchases.

I felt I couldn't ignore this quote from another thread, so I have added the Hilda Offen wraparound covers for the first books in both the St. Clare's and Malory Towers series.Kate Mary wrote:The slightly later 1981 hardback editions of the St Clare's and Malory Towers books had lovely wrap-around jackets by Hilda Offen. Wish I'd bought those at the time too.

Re: Website Additions
Interesting to see those - thanks for adding them. They aren't bad - and obviously follow the 'Mystery' ones as regards the style of the title box, except they are very much proper wrap-around covers of course! My favourites for Malory Towers will always be the Lilian Buchanan ones though. They are so lively!

Re: Website Additions
Thanks, Tony. I like Hilda Offen's wraparound cover for The Twins at St. Clare's as it's bright and a little stylised but still has touches of realism. I'm less keen on the one for First Term at Malory Towers as the figures and landscape look unnatural. It's good to see both covers though.

Thank you for adding the Hilda Offen covers Tony. I always liked them and they take me back to the days when public libraries rarely stocked paperbacks and publishers had a back list of hardback titles.

Re: Website Additions
I have now added all the colour plates for the four John o'London books, four for each book. The Latimer House reprints for the middle two books do not have wraparound dustwrappers, which explains why they are not shown!

Thanks, Tony. A beautiful-looking set of books. I love the dazzling colours! They're all extremely eye-catching, but I particularly like the Arabian Nights illustrations.

Re: Website Additions
Thanks for all your hard work, Tony. I think they are all very eye-catching, but my personal favourites are still those for Robin Hood - which I am sure were drawn by Dorothy Wheeler - though we will unfortunately never know!

Thanks Tony. There is something very familiar about the Tales From the Arabian Nights cover. I have the feeling that my grand parents may have read this to me when I was a child.
