Yes, I immediately noticed it! It is down to Enid that I learned the difference. However, I didn't feel the need to correct Rob publicly.

My mum taught me how to tell the difference and I still remember it today, she said stalac'tites' hang down like a pair of 'tights', and stalag'mites' might grow tall enough to reach the stalactites, so that's how I remember the difference!

My way of remembering is that the stalactites have to hold tight to the ceiling. And the others, stalagmites, just might one day join up with the others that hang from the ceiling.

Those are good ones! My dad taught me the difference but didn't give me a mnemonic, so I made up my own — stalagmites, with a "g", grow up from the ground, while stalactites, with a "c", hang from the ceiling. But that's not as clever as Cathy's and Julie's.

I just went to read the latest instalment and have just realised that as I am on holiday I don't have the last Journal with me and don't have the current password!
