Re: New Weekly Serial
The continuation novels cannot be published, because they are copyrighted. That is why they are in the secret passage and can only be read by Society Members.
I know a few people who print off the novels, Machupicchu14, and keep them as their own book copy.

Julian gave an exclamation and nudged George.

Re: New Weekly Serial
To be published, they would have to be accepted by Hachette - and I think the chances of that are slim. They have to be in the Secret Passage because, as Julie said, they would violate copyright laws if they were available to the general public, even though no one is making any profit from them.

Re: New Weekly Serial
Whilst I agree that these weekly serials could not be officially published unless they were taken up by Hachette (Enid Blyton Entertainments) and released by Hodder Children's Books, I am not so sure about violating copyright as there is 'fanfic' freely available to all on the internet on various sites including enidblyton.net - our sister site! I like to think that anything on our website is a much better quality than some of the rubbish that gets written (particularly some of the School stories), but it is only available in the Secret Passage for two reasons.
Firstly as a bonus to current Society Members (which is why the password changes with each Journal issue) and secondly to stop somebody copying any of the books and putting them out under their own name - I like to think that our members are not so unethical! This happened to some of Julie's stories on enidblyton.net, where an American published the stories under his name and released them in book form - something that is now fairly easy to do in the modern world of self publishing. So my main reason for keeping them in the Secret Passage is to protect our authors from piracy!

I have thought the same. No copyright is being violated in case of fanfics.

Re: New Weekly Serial
I remember that happening with some of Julie's stories, and them being sold on Amazon!! I agree, it is a bit of a safe-guard from people stealing our stories (should anyone want to, lol!!) - and if it helps to distinguish our stories from being mere 'fanfic' then all the better! I hate that term!!

Re: New Weekly Serial
Yes, it was very upsetting to see my whole work over a few years stolen by a man of the cloth, Machupicchu14.
Here is the thread about it.
I now have this book, as it was bought and given to me. It is quite a thick book, and the only bit that this man wrote was about 4 lines at the end of the book to say Fatty had passed away!!!!

Poor Fatty. He probably died of shame!

I wonder how anyone could do such a thing! He should be ashamed of himself!!
