New Weekly Serial

Is anyone else finding the new serial is missing? There is only the heading for the first chapter when I log in.

I don't know whether it's usually like this, but clicking on the heading brings up the whole chapter.
"Heyho for a starry night and a heathery bed!" - Jack, The Secret Island.

"There is no bond like the bond of having read and liked the same books."
- E. Nesbit, The Wonderful Garden.

Thanks Anita - that worked. No, we've never had to do that before. I wondered if there was a glitch as earlier the banner heading was missing too - just the little cross and 'image' which we get sometimes when a picture doesn't load. Now to read the chapter... :D

Did you read the chapter, Daisy? It's always nice to hear some sort of feedback. :)

I enjoyed it too, Julie. Have you written the rest of it yet, or are you making it all up week by week just like Enid??

It was a nuisance. An adventure was one thing - but an adventure without anything to eat was quite another thing. That wouldn't do at all. (The Valley of Adventure)

The Mystery of the Silver Cup is all written and loaded.

Incidentally, Enid also wrote the whole book before it was serialised, normally in a week!!

Let's hope you continue to enjoy it, Daisy and Courtenay.

Tony is right of course. He has to have the story complete, before it can be loaded and then serialized.

I would imagine it is quite difficult to write a story each week, as you'll forget what you have already written, and it may not flow quite the same. I would imagine most stories that are serialized how been fully written first.

I also really enjoyed your first chapter, Julie - a mystery already looming on the horizon for the FFO to solve! I can't wait to read more.

I might be wrong of course, and somebody who knows more than me will correct me, but I think one of the few writers to actually write his stories in instalments was Dickens? I think I read somewhere that this is why some of his stories ramble a bit and aren't always tightly structured (The Old Curiosity Shop, for example) ..? :?
'Oh voice of Spring of Youth
hearts mad delight,
Sing on, sing on, and when the sun is gone
I'll warm me with your echoes
through the night.'

(E. Blyton, Sunday Times, 1951)
