What an absolute gem the monthly Blyton article is. Hidden away on the site, it is well worth tracking down.

Indeed! I particularly like the colourful picture of the poppies. Very pretty.

The information about the swift and the sparrow was great, and the excerpt from the magazine was very amusing!

Somehow, however, the Monthly Enid Blyton seems a bit "hidden" to me since the makeover. I used to like the old links, such as "Biography" and "Online Shop," but the new menu looks much cleaner now.

A few months ago I read an article about swifts in a newspaper or magazine. The article stated that scientists doing research had just discovered that swifts hang themselves up by their hook-like feet and sleep for a few hours each night, rather than sleeping on the wing as previously thought. I was surprised to read that that was supposed to have only just been discovered! :o The Enid Blyton extract dates from 1934 so that fact about swifts was already known at the beginning of the twentieth century and probably earlier.

Yes, I had completely forgotten about the monthly Blyton feature. It took me quite a time to find it too! Maybe the links are a bit cryptic, but overall, I agree with you, Phil, the menu does look neater.

I'm a regular reader of the Monthly Enid Blyton, I particularly liked the piece from the EB Magazine about Enid's encounter with Peter Green Jersey. I too wore my Famous Five Club badge everywhere when aged about 10 but I never met another member much less Enid Blyton herself.

Hello, I'm just wondering if anyone can tell me what this monthly Enid Blyton feature is? I've been browsing the site regularly for a few months now and have never seen any sign of it.

Thanks

:)

Now that I've 'discovered' it (and a very apt time to do so, too!) I'll be a regular monthly visitor to that page. The person who put them together must have had a lot of fun! Noddy had me laughing out loud, he's so silly; the extract from One New Year's Eve reminded me of Blyton's ability to reach into those strange, half-wild places of fantasy and word them in a way that is totally absorbing and magical to young children; and the Mr Twiddle extract reminds me of her ability to teach new words. The illustrations are a lovely accompaniment too.

Smashing! Happy New Year, everyone!

:D

I did it, and I did! :) My aim in choosing the pieces was to show Enid's versatility as a writer. Tony did all the scanning of illustrations and arrangement of the pages.

Great work, Tony and Anita. It has become the subject of our first 2011 Tweet!

Edit:

Having just read this month's article, isn't Giant Cruelty the spitting image of Brian Blessed?!

He is, rather. Also reminded me of that 70s Greek singer, who dressed in kaftans.

Just googled him - Demis Roussos!

I really liked the Article did Enid write it herself. I like the month of June because my brother was born in this month.
