Did anyone else see this on eBay? Starting price of £2.99.

I bid only £23 top bid - knowing it would no doubt go higher...but I didn't expect it to go for the price it reached - £286!! I really don't believe it's worth that much - but I have the feeling this will now stop any chance of me ever getting a copy of this book! Every seller will jump on the bandwagon and expect similar prices for their copies. :-(

It's what happens when three people with money to burn lock antlers over an item they all must try to get.

I was responsible for shoving the price up on this by £30 or so, I don't know what came over me  . I just wanted it as I've never seen another copy. Why exactly is this particular book nigh on impossible to find anyway?

I don't know why its so hard to find, but presume it was maybe only published once in its original form? I know it was republished in a paperback (which I have) in the 1970's, with some other short stories, but perhaps it was only ever published with the Eileen Soper illustrations once?

I suppose that books like At Seaside Cottage didn't enjoy the huge print runs that series like The Famous Five and Secret Seven did which means there are less copies to be found on the open market, therefore when copies become available the price is so high.
I'm afraid that the internet has destroyed any real chance of finding a bargain anymore.

It's also a high price because its now recognised as 'The First Secret Seven Book' (even though it really isn't!) and I think that has made prices go up - plus the small print run, as you say.
